The Core Program brings together a group of influential leaders from around the state for an educational and inspirational experience that is unlike any other.
1000 Core Participants (serving 90 communities)
Leadership New Mexico’s Core Program is a 10-month commitment. Each session is designed to understand and address current issues in New Mexico. Sessions feature speakers who are specialized in their fields. The process offers an opportunity for discussion, inquiry, analysis, and development of solutions for our state’s most pressing issues.
Core Program sessions expose participants to different regions and local issues. They experience the unique culture, weaving a broad, comprehensive understanding of this multicultural and diverse state.
Each program year includes a two-day retreat and orientation, followed by five educational sessions on the topics of:
Health and Human Services
Economic Development
Education
Environment and Natural Resources
Government, Crime and Justice, and Leadership
Leadership New Mexico selects a class each year of 40-45 leaders who represent a cross-section of the various geographic regions as well as public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The Core Program is open to all New Mexico citizens. Special consideration is given to ensure diversity of race, gender, and occupational background. January 1 – May 31 of each year and class participants are announced at the end of June.
Tuition for the Core Program is $3,500 and covers program costs, transportation during sessions, and meals. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the session locations and hotel accommodations. A limited number of scholarships may be available for those requiring financial assistance. A request for scholarship assistance does not affect selection into the program.
