Session 1 – Santa Fe, September 4-6, 2019

Orientation & Retreat Session

The Core Class of 2020 began with the Orientation and Retreat Session on September 4-6 in Santa Fe. The program began with an overview of Leadership New Mexico and an evening at the Santa Fe Opera. The next day, the class participated in a group interaction and ropes course with Phil Bryson of On the Edge Productions at Brush Ranch. The program closed with a presentation by Dr. Jim Crupi, “Leadership for Changing Times: Forces Shaping the Future.”

Session 2 – Las Vegas, November 8-10, 2019

Health & Human Services Session

The Core Class of 2020’s Health and Human Services Session was November 7-9 in Las Vegas. During the session, participants learned about an array of health and human services topics in New Mexico, including: personal health, healthcare in New Mexico, cannabis, mental health, the opioid crisis, senior and elderly healthcare, homelessness support initiatives, and well-being of children. Participants visited several locations in Las Vegas: Fort Union National Monument, Historic El Fidel Hotel, the Castaneda Hotel, New Mexico Highlands University, Historic Plaza Hotel, and United World College – USA.

Session 3 – Las Cruces, January 9-11, 2020

Economic Development Session

The Core Class of 2020 visited Las Cruces for the Economic Development session on January 9-11. The session started with an optional tour of White Sands Missile Range that included exclusive access to the Cox Range Control Center. The tour was followed by an opening reception that allowed current participants, alumni, and leaders from the Las Cruces community to reconnect.

During the session, participants heard from experts on a variety of economic development-related topics in New Mexico, including: agriculture, border affairs, technology, entrepreneurship, and military impact. Participants visited several locations in Las Cruces, including: Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, Hacienda de Mesilla, New Mexico State University, Santa Theresa Border Crossing, Vescovo Toyota of Las Cruces, War Eagles Museum, and White Sands Missile Range.
